Back to school

For many, today seems to be their first day back to school... It feels more poignant, doesn't it? We've done lockdown, we're doing covid-19 and those teachers are managing some very different classrooms and needs this year...

Here's something... Whilst we're all feeling reflective EMBRACE THIS FEELING. This one is about what you're feeling right now. If there's one thing that coronavirus has taught us, it's how to embrace time. Stop and take a moment. Enjoy the scene.

We want you to do something... This week, go and buy a note book... Preferably with a hard back cover because it has to last for many, many years. Next, you need to take a photo of your kid(s) in their school uniform... The camera quality does not matter. Nor does the style of imagery. Over the years, Kirsty & I have always had a little snigger at the amount taken in front of doors (living room, dining room, bath room, front door - but it's always been a door!) and this year there seems to be a sense of freedom and fresh beginnings as we've seen so many taken in outside and in gardens. Anyway, back to the job in hand...

Once you've taken your photo, get it printed. Invest in a "real photo" - it doesn't have to be big. But use the professional printers (not the instant kiosks in supermarkets or the "free print" websites - the inks will fade very quickly and the quality isn't there in image download, paper weight or ink quality) on "proper" photo paper. Then, once you have the PRINT (don't save it on your computer, you'll lose it - either by computer error or forget the file.) stick it in the hardback note book you bought and on the page opposite, in your handwriting or theirs, write:
- the date they started school
- the year/class name they're going in to
- their teacher's name
- how old they are
- how tall they are
- what they want to be when they grow up

and anything else from this moment in time... favourite hobby, favourite subject at school, favourite food, etc.

Do this, over the years, and you will have created a truly unique year book that nobody else could ever do and/or replace.

Make today's "phone snap" a moment to remember.
