Welcome, to Studio1825: home of Be my Baby

Spanker Lane, Nether Heage, Belper, DE56 2AT

“One of the nicest things about the studio is that it’s just us! We can really take all the time we need with our clients, from consultation, through the shoot, to the final pieces on the wall.”

“It’s great to have the freedom to work with individual clients to create such a unique & personal Experience”

Kirsty

With 20 years photography experience, including ten years of running high street studios, husband & wife team James & Kirsty decided to give up the stresses of city life & a busy studio business & relocate their young family to the North Derbyshire countryside, settling in the historic mill town of Belper. The boutique studio on the outskirts of Belper has been designed to bring together the professional environment of a modern photographic studio in a stunning converted 200 year old building however it wasn’t easy…

“After ten years of a small chain of high street studios - Firefly Photography - we chose to downsize to focus on the needs of our children, then aged 2, 5 & 7 with our eldest daughter having additional medical needs. We found an old, derelict, barn on the outskirts of Belper and chose to relocate our home & business for an easier, more balanced, lifestyle. In the year we moved, we endured two floods - with the national news broadcasting from down the road in Matlock - as well as fallen down walls, a mummified cat, an endangered bat, a cowboy builder & a global health pandemic. Against all the odds we succeeded in converting the 200 year old building into the stunning, unique studio space that you see today.”

Kirsty & James

Some ask why we named the barn “Studio1825” and it’s because the original building dates back to the year 1825.”

“The personal nature of the studio environment means that there is only ever one booking in at any one time, allowing for a both a safe and relaxed studio experience where families are invited to move in and make the space their own… Something which we think our industry lacks, these days. For those who knew us back in the old days you’ll know how much we love people! To be able to create a slower pace, instead of a “bums on seats” high street based machine means that we feel we were able to do our jobs properly, both in photography and in levels of customer service. We won’t lie - the move, along with all of the issues we faced, tested both our relationship and patience at times but we are both so proud to be able to say “welcome to Studio1285: home of the studio with James, both for Be my Baby and Be Bold Be You.”
